Raymond Murphy's English Grammar in Use app, developed by Cambridge University Press and Mosquito, has been named winner of the Prolific North's App of the Year award.

Murphy's Grammar in Use books are known and loved the world over. First published in 1985, for 30 years they have helped tens of millions of students worldwide with their English language studies. The app version, launched in 2014, delivers the grammar reference and practice exercises from Murphy's best-selling, intermediate level book in an innovative way, re-working the content to suit mobile devices.

The Prolific North's App of the Year award celebrates the best mobile application that displays an understanding of its target audience, as well as being creative, appropriate and successful, with judges also looking for significant achievement in terms of sales and/or downloads.

Since launching in 2014, the English Grammar in Use app has been downloaded by around half a million users across the iOS and Android app stores, and the numbers are growing daily.

IAN COOK

Ian Cook, Senior Marketing Manager at Cambridge University Press, said; 'Since launching the app last year, it's proved hugely popular in a large number of countries around the world, from Brazil, to Russia, to South Korea. We're therefore delighted that it has now also been recognised by Prolific North.

'This shows that Murphy's English Grammar in Use not only stands head and shoulders above many other language learning apps, but in terms of technical build and user experience, it also competes with some great apps in very different categories.'

The judges described Murphy's English Grammar in Use as 'truly global' with 'testimonials from people all over the world'. All of this is testament to the achievements of the teams at Cambridge University Press and Mosquito, as well as Raymond Murphy himself, who worked collaboratively for over 12 months to deliver an app that enhances the learning experience whilst remaining true to the original aims of the book, written 'with the learner in mind'. The teams have contributed to keeping this classic grammar reference and practice text relevant and accessible to new generations of learners.
