The Challenge

My Cooking Counts supports the Department for Education’s ambition, set in the government’s ‘School Food Plan’ initiative, for pupils to cook a range of savoury dishes by 16 years of age. My Cooking Counts helps pupils aged 11-16 years track what they cook. The website was developed in collaboration with the British Nutrition Foundation and the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB are the governing council for meat in the UK).

Mosquito produced the digital strategy for the BNF’s school initiative to support government standards, to challenge children to cook healthily and competently by the age of 16.

The School Food Plan is an agreed plan that has the support of the Secretary of State for Education and of the diverse organisations who are supporting Headteachers to improve food in their schools.

The system is designed to support teachers to monitor and track student cooking work. They can also use My Cooking Counts to generate reports for their school, such as the average number of recipes cooked by a student or the total number of recipes cooked by the entire school. These reports are used publicly to promote food, cooking and nutrition work in their school.
